Coppin State University Celebrates Annual University Day, Reaffirming Commitment to Excellence and Strategic Growth
Faculty and staff gather under the theme “From Momentum to Method” to celebrate institutional achievements and strengthen the campus community ahead of the fall semester
BALTIMORE — Coppin State University held its annual University Day celebration on Monday, August 17, 2026, bringing faculty, staff and university leaders together to reflect on institutional achievements and recommit to the university’s strategic priorities as the fall semester approaches.
This year’s theme, “From Momentum to Method,” framed the day’s purpose: moving beyond celebrating recent progress toward building the shared practices, collaboration and accountability needed to sustain it. The program opened with a look back at the university’s accomplishments and continued with campuswide conversations focused on the work ahead.
University Day serves as an important moment for the Coppin community to recognize the contributions of faculty and staff who advance the university’s mission. The celebration highlighted the collaborative, mission-driven culture that defines Coppin and its commitment to excellence, student success, and institutional growth.
“University Day is an opportunity to celebrate how far we have come while remaining focused on where we are going,” said Anthony L. Jenkins, Ph.D., president of Coppin State University. “Our momentum is the result of people across this university believing in our mission, working together and holding themselves to a high standard. As we begin another academic year, our challenge is to turn that momentum into sustainable practices that will move Coppin forward for years to come.”
The university enters the 2026–2027 academic year following a period of significant progress. Coppin received more than 24,000 applications for Fall 2026, reaffirmed its accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and continued investments in academic programs, student success initiatives, workforce partnerships and campus facilities.
“University Day reminds us that our strength lies in our people,” said Chanta M. Haywood, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Our faculty and staff bring extraordinary talent, commitment and passion to their work every day. As we prepare to welcome our students back to campus, we are united by our responsibility to provide them with the academic excellence, support and opportunities they need to thrive.”
The celebration also recognized faculty members who earned tenure and promotion, highlighting their accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, research and service. Their achievements reflect Coppin’s continued investment in academic excellence and the faculty who shape the student experience.
University Day also provided an opportunity for faculty and staff to reconnect ahead of the start of classes, engage with university leadership and discuss priorities for the year ahead. The conversations emphasized collaboration across divisions, shared accountability, and a commitment to strengthening how the university works together to serve students and the broader community.
As Coppin prepares to welcome students for the Fall 2026 semester, the university continues to build on its recent momentum while remaining focused on its mission of providing an accessible, affordable and high-quality education that transforms lives and strengthens communities.
