Coppin State University Earns National Recognition for Value, Affordability and Student Outcomes
Niche names Coppin a Top 10 HBCU and Top 100 Best Value College nationally; Washington Monthly ranks Coppin second among Maryland HBCUs
BALTIMORE — Coppin State University is earning national recognition for the value of a Coppin education, with new rankings from Niche and Washington Monthly highlighting the University’s affordability, student outcomes and commitment to educational access.
Coppin earned national recognition in Niche’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings, placing the University among the nation’s leading HBCUs and best-value institutions.
Niche ranked Coppin:
#10 among Best HBCU Schools in America, out of 73 institutions
#100 among Best Value Colleges in America, out of 1,450 institutions
#189 among Best Small Colleges in America, out of 935 institutions
The #100 Best Value Colleges in America ranking places Coppin among the top 7% of institutions evaluated nationally in that category.
Coppin also earned recognition from Washington Monthly in its 2026 Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars rankings. Coppin ranked #129 out of 393 colleges and universities in the Northeast, placing the University among the top 33% of institutions in the region.
Among Maryland’s four historically Black colleges and universities, Coppin ranked second overall. The University also ranked #94 in affordability, with a reported net price of $7,919, the lowest among Maryland’s four HBCUs included in the ranking.
Coppin ranked #118 in student outcomes among the 393 Northeast institutions evaluated, with reported earnings of $63,359 four years after graduation.

Washington Monthly’s 2026 rankings consider access, affordability, student outcomes, and community and national service, highlighting how institutions create value for students, families and the communities they serve.
Together, Niche and the Washington Monthly rankings reflect Coppin State University’s mission to provide educational opportunities while fostering lifelong learning, leadership, social responsibility, civic and community engagement, and economic development.
The recognition comes during a period of significant growth for Coppin. For Fall 2026, the University welcomed more than 1,500 new undergraduate students, the largest incoming class in University history, reflecting continued interest in the value and opportunities a Coppin education provides.
For Coppin, affordability is about more than keeping the cost of college within reach. It is part of a broader commitment to helping students translate higher education into economic mobility, career opportunity, and long-term success.
