Coppin State Legend Christina Epps Named to 2027 MEAC Hall of Fame Class

Olympian and six-time MEAC champion recognized for her outstanding collegiate career and contributions to athletics

BALTIMORE – Coppin State University track and field legend Christina Epps has been selected for induction into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame as a member of its 2027 class.

Epps, a native of Morristown, New Jersey, is one of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of Coppin State Athletics and the MEAC. She joins “Cy” Alexander of South Carolina State University, Rod Broadway of North Carolina A&T State University, Reggie Holmes of Morgan State University and William Judson of South Carolina State in the 2027 class.

“When I coined the phrase, ‘Coppin State is where scholars and champions are made,’ I was thinking of Eagles like Christina Epps,” said Coppin State University President Anthony L. Jenkins, Ph.D. “Her excellence as a student-athlete, Olympian and athletics administrator reflects the talent, determination and leadership that define Coppin State. On behalf of the entire Coppin State University community, I congratulate Christina on her well-deserved induction into the MEAC Hall of Fame.”

The inductees will be honored during the 2027 MEAC Basketball Tournament, scheduled for March 10–13 in Norfolk, Virginia. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Thursday, March 11, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel.

A six-time MEAC champion and two-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American, Epps established herself as one of the nation’s premier triple jumpers during her time at Coppin State. She swept the MEAC indoor and outdoor triple jump championships in 2011 and 2014. She concluded her collegiate career by placing among the nation’s top 16 in the event at both the indoor and outdoor national championships in 2014.

Epps also earned three medals in the triple jump at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, including the 2012 ECAC indoor title.

Following her graduation from Coppin State, Epps continued competing at the highest level. She represented the United States in the triple jump at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after finishing second at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Competing against the world’s top athletes, she placed 15th overall with a jump of 14.01 meters, or 45 feet, 11.75 inches.

Epps continues to hold the Coppin State and MEAC indoor triple jump record of 43 feet, 2.5 inches and the outdoor record of 43 feet, 11.75 inches. Her personal best is 14.18 meters, or 46 feet, 6.25 inches.

A multi-sport student-athlete, Epps also competed on Coppin State’s volleyball team. She held the program’s single-match record for hitting percentage in a three-set match for 11 years and ranked among the program’s top 10 in career blocks when she graduated. She later returned to Coppin as an assistant volleyball coach for two seasons under current head coach Tim Walsh.

Epps was named the 2014 MEAC Woman of the Year and selected as an NCAA Woman of the Year Top 30 finalist, an honor recognizing graduating student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership. She was inducted into the Coppin State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.

Following her competitive career, Epps transitioned into collegiate athletics administration. She currently serves as assistant athletic director for compliance and diversity and inclusion at Swarthmore College. She previously held compliance positions at Coppin State and Delaware State University.
