Coppin State University is making college more accessible and affordable by offering in-state tuition to new undergraduate first-year and transfer students from over 30 states and U.S. territories outside of Maryland.

This Expand Eagle Nation In-State Tuition Incentive ensures that students from eligible locations can receive significant tuition savings while gaining access to Coppin State’s exceptional academic programs and vibrant campus community.

How Does the Expand Eagle Nation In-State Tuition Incentive Work?

Newly admitted first-year and transfer students from eligible states and U.S. territories will automatically qualify for in-state tuition. This means students will pay the same rate as Maryland residents for the entire duration of their undergraduate degree program at Coppin State University.

No separate application is required. Eligibility is automatically applied once a student is admitted.


Who Is Eligible?

To qualify, students must:

  • Be a new undergraduate first-year or transfer student
  • Be admitted as a full-time, degree-seeking student at Coppin State University
  • Reside in one of the eligible states or U.S. territories outside of Maryland
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Move-In Day Tips:

  • Arrival Time: Make sure to arrive during your designated move-in time to ensure a smooth process. Volunteers will be available to assist with unloading and moving items into the residence halls.
  • Parking: Parking is available in designated areas. Please follow the signs and instructions from our staff to avoid any confusion.

Parent Orientation:

  • August 22:
    • 9 AM: Residential Hall meeting in JWJ Auditorium – Meet the Residence Life staff, learn about living on campus, and get answers to your questions.
    • Afternoon: After lunch, parents and guests are encouraged to explore the campus or local area while students attend orientation sessions.

Special Invitations for Parents and Families:

  • Summer Concert: Join us on the evening of August 22 for a delightful jazz concert.
  • Orientation Sessions: Parents are welcome to attend orientation sessions on August 22 to gain valuable insights and information about the university.
  • Lunch on August 22: A communal lunch will be provided for all attendees, with a separate lunch available for Scholars and their families.

Visiting Undergraduate (Non-Degree Seeking)

  • At Coppin State University, we make it easy for visiting students to take summer and Mini-mester classes. Choose from a wide variety of classes, earn transferable credits, and speed up the completion of your degree.

    Visiting undergraduate students should complete an Undergraduate Non-Degree Enrollment Form (Summer/Winter Registration Application). You can view available classes and submit your completed application to registrar@coppin.edu.

Explore the Summer SOAR Program

  • Eligibility: Open to CURRENT Coppin State undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credit hours in the previous academic year.
  • Free Credits: Earn up to 6 credits at no cost. Ideal for students looking to accelerate their studies or explore new subjects.
  • Application Deadline: Apply by May 15 to secure your spot.
  • Priority: Early applicants receive priority consideration.

Fanny Jackson Coppin Scholarship: Requirements Prior to 2025

Coppin State University gets our name from our beloved namesake, Fanny Jackson Coppin. She was a pioneer who rose through slavery to transform her life through education. She transformed her life so she could transform the lives of others. Students selected for this prestigious scholarship are expected to follow in her legacy through academic excellence, campus engagement, and community service.

Scholars currently enrolled who started before 2025 are subject to the following conditions of the Fanny Jackson Coppin Scholarship: The Fanny Jackson Coppin Scholarship is a four-year, renewable scholarship covering tuition, room, board, and up to $1000/year in books. To qualify, a potential Scholar must be a current high school senior with a weighted high school cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above. The test score requirements are an SAT score of 1140 or an ACT composite score of 23*. A potential Scholar must be a US citizen or a US permanent resident.

The scholarship is renewable provided the Scholar completes thirty (30) credit hours during the freshman year, enrolls in the Academic Excellence track via the Honors Program or the Leadership Excellence track, and maintains a cumulative 3.2 grade point average.

Scholars will select an Excellence track during summer orientation. Be sure to visit their webpages to learn more about each track.

Eligibility 

  • You are eligible if you withdrew from Coppin State University or did not complete a semester, and you are seeking to return as a degree-seeking undergraduate student.
  • You must have previously departed from Coppin State University while in good academic standing, having maintained a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • You may still be eligible if your undergraduate GPA was below 2.0. Additionally steps may be required.
