Our House Mentoring Program
Our House Mentoring is a peer-lead program offered by the Eagle Achievement Center. Serving as a support network for first-year Coppin State University students, the goal of this mentoring program is to help students alleviate challenges they may face while transitioning into the college environment. Peer Mentors guide students through their first-year experience at Coppin State University by helping students get accumulated to campus life, connect with campus resources, and improve academic skills.
This program is available to all first-year students. Participants receive individualized mentoring during the first semester of the academic year and move into group style mentoring called Houses during the second semester.
Program Benefits
- Support and Guidance: Meet individually with Peer Mentors to seek guidance for professional and personal development.
- Plan for Success: Create SMART goals, attend workshops and events sponsored by the First-Year Experience team to help jumpstart your college career.
- Make New Friends: Connect with program participants by attending group activities planned by the Peer Mentors.
- Campus Engagement: Explore ways to get involved with campus groups and organizations.
- Prizes: Throughout your first-year experience, you will have the opportunity to win prizes such as bookstore credits, scholarships, school gear, gift cards, etc.
How to Enroll
First-year students are paired with a Peer Mentor through the Mentor Collective system. This system collects data and matches participants based on their preferences. To enroll in the program, complete the steps below:
- Complete the Mentor Collective matching survey.
- Complete start of program assessment. You will be given a personalized link on your dashboard after you complete the matching survey.
- Be on the lookout for communication from Mentor Collective via phone and email.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The Our House Mentoring program is designated for first-year students only. Second, third and fourth-year students are encouraged to meet with Success Coaches located in the Eagle Achievement Center.
First-year students are strongly encouraged to participate in this program. Beginning the 2024/2025 academic year, all first-year students will be required to participate in the Our House Mentoring program as part of your first-year seminar class.
Yes. The program is free to participate in.
Click on the invitation link and you’ll be guided through a matching survey. The survey will help us match you with a mentor based on your preferences. After completing the Mentor Collective matching survey, students will be matched with a Peer Mentor within 10 days of completing the matching survey.
Your mentor can talk with you about how your semester is going. They can show you around campus, help you find resources at CSU, or get involved with campus activities. You can also talk about the challenges of being a first-year student with someone who has been in your shoes before.
You have the option of meeting with your Peer Mentor in-person or virtually. After you’re matched with a Peer Mentor, your mentor will contact you via email or phone to determine the best time to meet.
Yes. While you will be matched with a Peer Mentor, you can also meet with other mentors during drop-in hours. Drop-in mentoring is available every Monday-Friday from 12pm-3pm in the Eagle Achievement Center.
