Coppin State University continues to build momentum as a premier urban institution, with student success at the center of its mission. That momentum is reflected in senior guard Khila Morris, who earns Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Newcomer of the Year honors and First Team All-Conference recognition.

Morris’s impact extends far beyond the court. Her performance represents the intersection of academic discipline, leadership, and competitive excellence that defines the Coppin experience. As the first student-athlete in program history to receive this honor, she reinforces Coppin’s growing national reputation and its strategic priority to strengthen brand and institutional visibility.

A native of Bronx, New York, Morris leads the Eagles with 12.9 points per game while contributing 4.4 rebounds, 90 assists, 51 steals, and 12 blocks. She elevates her performance in conference play, averaging 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, ranking among the MEAC’s top performers across multiple categories.

Her consistency and leadership drive results, reaching double figures in 21 games and recording five 20-point performances. A standout moment includes a 26-point, 13-rebound performance in a pivotal conference victory, underscoring her ability to perform under pressure.

Morris’s success directly aligns with Coppin State University’s strategic priorities to improve student completion and outcomes, enhance teaching and learning through experiential opportunities, and elevate the University’s position as a leader in urban higher education. Through athletics, Coppin continues to create pathways for student achievement, discipline, and lifelong success.

As Coppin advances its “One Coppin” vision, Morris’s accomplishment reflects a broader institutional commitment: developing students who succeed academically, compete at a high level, and graduate prepared to lead in their communities and careers.
