Coppin State University Expands Eagle Nation on Martha’s Vineyard

BALTIMORE — Coppin State University gathered alumni, partners, and friends on Martha’s Vineyard from August 2–8, 2026, for a memorable week of connection, celebration, and community during HBCU Week.

Some traditions are rooted not only in place, but also in purpose. Martha’s Vineyard has long served as a gathering place for connection, leadership, and possibility. Coppin’s presence provided an opportunity to renew longstanding relationships, build new partnerships, and celebrate the momentum shaping the university’s future.

During the week, President Anthony L. Jenkins, Ph.D., shared the story of a renaissance taking place at Coppin, Maryland’s fastest-growing HBCU and the state’s leading HBCU for male enrollment growth and retention. That renaissance is defined not only by enrollment growth, but also by innovation. Coppin is integrating artificial intelligence into the classroom, expanding stackable credentials, and advancing research centers that prepare students to lead in a rapidly changing world.

The university’s signature Backyard Soirée on the Vineyard brought members of Eagle Nation together for an afternoon of fellowship, celebration, and shared purpose. The gathering reflected Coppin’s commitment to expanding Eagle Nation by deepening alumni engagement, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and opening doors to new opportunities for students.

Coppin’s progress is ultimately a story about people. Conversations may begin in a moment, but the relationships they create can span generations, with an impact that will be felt for years to come.
