The soundtrack for slowing down, reflecting, and enjoying the summer

BALTIMORE – President Anthony L. Jenkins’ Summer 2026 playlist blends timeless classics, feel-good nostalgia, and songs that instantly transport listeners to cookouts, warm evenings, and long drives with the windows down. The playlist leans heavily into old-school R&B, funk, and summer groove staples that capture the spirit of summer relaxation and connection.

"This is music I can relax to, smoke a cigar to, and enjoy a nice summer day with my wife," Jenkins said. "The order doesn't matter. Every song brings back a feeling."

In addition to some of his favorite classics, President Jenkins also included a song with special meaning to the Coppin community. The playlist features a track by recent Coppin graduate Latia Carter, known on Instagram as @tiaa_here, whose viral commencement remix captured national attention and celebrated her journey as a first-generation college graduate, computer science major, scholar, and creative artist.

"Tia's song is a reminder of the talent, determination, and excellence our students bring to Coppin every day," Jenkins said. "Her success story embodies what is possible through hard work, perseverance, and the transformative power of education."

The sounds of summer extend beyond the playlist. Coppin State University welcomes alumni, family, friends, and community members to the 2026 Coppin Summer Concert Series, a beloved campus tradition that brings people together through music, fellowship, and fun.

Concerts will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 25, July 23, and Aug. 20 on the South Quad between the Science and Technology Center and the Health and Human Services Building. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy live entertainment, local vendors, and an evening under the stars.

A suggested donation of $10 supports the continuation of this signature event and helps fund programs and experiences that strengthen the Coppin community and enrich the student experience. Coppin students and children 13 and under are admitted free. Street and on-campus parking are available.

Whether it's a classic summer groove, a celebration of Coppin pride, or an evening at the Summer Concert Series, President Jenkins’ playlist reflects the joy, memories, and sense of possibility that define the season.
