Coppin State University to Host Community Shredding Event on June 17
Secure document disposal initiative promotes cybersecurity awareness and responsible information protection
BALTIMORE – Coppin State University will host a community shredding event on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, providing faculty, staff, students, and community members with an opportunity to securely dispose of sensitive documents while promoting strong cybersecurity practices.
The event will take place at two campus locations throughout the day:
9 a.m. to Noon – Talon Parking Lot F
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Henrietta Lacks Health and Human Services Building, Parking Lot C
Participants are encouraged to begin gathering outdated records, confidential paperwork, and other documents containing sensitive or personal information for secure destruction.
“Cybersecurity is not limited to our digital spaces. It also includes how we responsibly manage and dispose of physical documents containing sensitive information,” said Dr. Dionne N. Curbeam, vice president of information technology and chief information officer at Coppin State University. “This event is an important opportunity for our campus and community to take proactive steps to protect personal and institutional information while reinforcing best practices in information security.”
The shredding event is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness around cybersecurity, privacy, and information security. Secure disposal of sensitive materials helps reduce the risk of identity theft, fraud, and unauthorized access to confidential information.
Community members are welcome to participate.
