Information Security and Privacy by Design
The Information Security and Privacy Governance Committee (ISPG) of Coppin State University (CSU) is committed to implementation and sustainability of processes that provide for the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data entrusted to the university. The ISPG committee aims to help CSU identify the appropriate usage of personnel, procedures, and technology to identify and manage Information Security and data privacy risks.
Today, best practice suggests that Information Security and Data Privacy need to be an integral part of an organization’s operations. It should be integrated into an organization’s priorities, projects, and initiatives, incorporated into policies and processes, and embedded in technology, data systems, and protocols.
The Information Security and Privacy Governance Committee emphasizes communication, supporting and taking actions within their respective areas of Coppin State University to reinforce the following behaviors.
- Information Security and data privacy is practiced in daily operations.
- Coppin State University personnel respect the importance of information security and data privacy policies and procedures.
- People are provided with sufficient detailed information security and data privacy guidance and are encouraged to participate in and challenge the current information security situation.
- Everyone is accountable for the protection of information within the Coppin State University community.
- Stakeholders are aware of how to respond to threats to Coppin State University.
- Management proactively supports and anticipates new information security and data privacy innovations and communicates this to the organization. CSU is receptive to account for and deal with new information security and data privacy challenges.
- Business management engages in continuous communication to allow for an efficient and effective Information Security Program and Data Privacy Governance Program.
These concepts together are known as “Information Security and Privacy by Design.” The Information Security and Privacy Governance Committee will work to formulate a framework that ensures that the required processes and procedures are in place to support day-to-day business operations as well as address emerging risk concerns that may occur.
