Teaching and Learning
The Department of Teaching and Learning at Coppin State University (CSU) is committed to preparing professional teachers who, competently, respond to the needs of students. This department helps to comprise the corner stone of Coppin State, the teacher education programs. Our dedicated team of faculty and staff is committed to honoring CSU's legacy with offering robust programs that align with the standards set forth in the College of Education.
Graduates of our programs go on to make significant contributions in public and private schools all over the nation as teachers and educational leaders. A distinctive element the Department of Teaching and Learning is that our programs prepare professionals poised with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become change agents because they possess the ability to meet the academic needs of students in urban environments; as well as the needs of the broader learning community.
Coppin State University's legacy of ensuring that teacher candidates are qualified to respond to the needs of learners is reflected in our steadfast commitment to make a difference in the lives of children. Our undergraduate and graduate programs offered in the Department of Teaching and Learning include Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education all of which are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
As data-driven decision makers, competent professionals, and agents of change, our candidates graduate (1) with a thorough academic background; (2) having engaged in site-based professional development; and (3) possessing theoretical and pedagogical knowledge, skills, and dispositions consistent with MSDE’s Redesign of Teacher Education.
We looking forward to meeting and working with you as you realize your personal and academic strengths as a teacher. For additional information please contact the Department of Teaching and Learning at 410-951-3066.
