Coppin State University Welcomes Eagles Back to Campus During Move-In Weekend
Students and families marked the start of a new academic year as Coppin welcomed new and returning Eagles during Move-In Weekend
BALTIMORE — Coppin State University welcomed new and returning students to campus during Move-In Weekend, marking the beginning of the 2026-27 academic year and a new chapter for hundreds of Eagles and their families.
Throughout the weekend, students arrived at Daley Hall, Dedmond Hall and off-campus housing with cars packed with belongings, while families, university staff, volunteers and student leaders worked together to help them settle into their new homes.
This year’s move-in was especially significant as Coppin welcomed more than 1,500 first-year scholars to the Eagle community as part of the largest incoming class in university history.
“For Toinette and me, Move-In Weekend is a time of excitement and renewed energy because it represents possibility, new beginnings and the start of another transformational year for our students,” said Coppin State University President Anthony L. Jenkins, Ph.D. “It was inspiring to welcome this record-breaking cohort of Eagles and their families and to see our entire university community come together to make them feel at home.”
President Jenkins and First Lady Toinette Jenkins joined staff and volunteers throughout move-in, greeting students and families, visiting the residence halls and helping welcome the newest members of the Coppin community. Across campus, volunteers assisted students with unloading vehicles, transporting belongings, and navigating the residence halls. Inside, families helped students unpack, organize their rooms, and prepare for the semester ahead.
The weekend also offered opportunities for new students to begin building connections with classmates, university employees and the broader Coppin community before the first day of classes.
For many first-year scholars, the experience marked their first official moments as college students. For returning Eagles, it represented a return to familiar spaces, friendships and campus traditions.
The strong turnout reflected Coppin State University’s continued enrollment momentum. As Maryland’s fastest-growing university, Coppin continues to experience increased demand while expanding programs and resources designed to support student success, retention and engagement.
