Coppin Baseball’s Jackson Montgomery Featured on NBC Chicago
Eagles pitcher turns adversity into impact, showcasing resilience on and off the field
BALTIMORE — Coppin State University baseball student-athlete Jackson Montgomery is earning national attention for his powerful comeback story, recently featured on NBC Chicago.
After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2024, Montgomery faced a redshirt season and significant health challenges. Through discipline and determination, he returned to the mound stronger—regaining his health, rejoining the Eagles roster, and continuing his Division I career.
Now weighing 175 pounds and managing his condition with advanced technology, Montgomery is also giving back as a member of the 2025 Dexcom U roster, mentoring other young athletes navigating similar journeys.
His story reflects the resilience, focus, and perseverance that define Coppin students—on the field and beyond—and reinforces the University’s commitment to student success.
