Biography

Dr. Aerian Tatum is an Assistant HIM Professor at Coppin State University (CSU) in Baltimore, Maryland.  Here she teaches the competencies necessary to assist students with learning the pillars of the health information profession. She advises and mentors students, sits on several committees, and plans events to persist with life-long learning. 

Dr. Tatum holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from East Carolina University, a Master of Science in Healthcare Informatics from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus.  She holds three professional credentials, the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). 

Dr. Tatum is also a current member of the local and national chapters of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). She is a current delegate for the state association and served as director during 2019.  

Dr. Tatum has been a coding consultant for more than 20 years, coding and auditing every record type. She has also functioned as a business associate, project manager, and technical developer.
