About the Podcast Lab

The Business Innovation Lab is one of the College of Business’s signature experiential learning environments, designed to support hands-on learning, faculty teaching, research engagement, and knowledge sharing through a business-centered lens.

Using podcasting, video, and other digital platforms as tools for learning and engagement, the lab gives students practical experience in professional communication, research, strategic thinking, executive interviewing, project coordination, critical thinking, collaboration, and audience engagement. Students learn to prepare for complex conversations, translate ideas for different audiences, and move projects from concept through execution.

The lab also supports faculty teaching and scholarship by providing a space to design experiential learning activities, engage students in applied projects, conduct research-related conversations, connect with industry professionals, and translate scholarly work into accessible content for business and community audiences.

Beyond the classroom, the Business Innovation Lab brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners to exchange ideas, showcase innovation, share expertise, and elevate the work of the College of Business. In this way, the lab strengthens student learning while advancing teaching, scholarship, thought leadership, industry engagement, and the College’s broader connection to the communities it serves.

Inside the Lab

The studio runs on more than episodes. Here is what you can do in the room.

Faculty build a studio session into an existing course. Students record interviews, panels, or presentations as a graded assignment; no media background required.

Registered student organizations reserve studio time to produce their own content. Everything from recruitment to event coverage.

Students prepare, research, and conduct on-record interviews with alumni, faculty, and visiting industry leaders, the core of In The Black.

Interns run audio, video, scheduling, and post-production across the semester, building a portfolio and a reference alongside their coursework.

Short sessions on interviewing, on-camera presence, audio basics, and storytelling are open to the College of Business community.
