Placement Testing

All new students must take the Math Placement Test to determine their most appropriate first math course. Placement testing must be completed prior to New Student Orientation.

Schedule Your Placement Test

The placement test requires, on average, 30-40 minutes to complete. There are two options to for testing, virtually and in-person.

Group Placement Testing

The placement test can be taken after New Student Orientation. Students must register in advance for these group testing dates. Group placement testing will occur in the basement of the Parlett L. Moore library on weekdays. The Saturday session will occur in the Grace Hill Jacobs building.

In-person Testing

In-person and drop-in testing are available Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm. You must book an appointment here at least 2 weeks prior for a drop-in time. After registration, arrival instructions will be sent.

Virtual Testing

If you need to test virtually, you can book an appointment online. After booking, please email your Student ID# and date of birth to bpreston@coppin.edu to set up your testing voucher. You must have a computer with camera and microphone capabilities and high-speed internet for this option.

Take a Practice Test

Prepare for your math placement test with our online practice test.

Math Refresher Course

If you want to prepare or take a math refresher, a course is available for free! The course is offered through the Coppin State University Math Center in the Eagle Achievement Center, on the 4th floor of the library. The refresher course takes approximately 11-12 hours to complete.

Placement Testing Exemption Requests

First-year students who have completed a college-level math course at a two- or four-year institution during a hybrid course of study or dual enrollment program while in high school are exempt from the math placement test, as well as students who have scored over a 470 in math on the SAT.

Please, email bpreston@coppin.edu to request this waiver. Ensure that the college transcript or SAT scores have been sent to the Admissions Office prior to making this request.
