Q: Why aren't faculty required to use Blackboard?
A: Academic policy is set by the Office of Academic Affairs. IT does not have the authority to mandate use of Blackboard by faculty; however, you can encourage faculty members to contact the Office of Instructional Technology & Training at 410-951-2643 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for information about training opportunities on Blackboard. Their office is located in the Grace Hill Jacobs building, room 106.
Q: What web browser do you recommend students use to access Blackboard?
A: We recommend that students use the latest version of the Firefox web browser when using Blackboard. Most of the tools inside of Blackboard are fully functional inside this browser. If you need more information about how to download Firefox, please visit www.mozilla.org.
Q: Where is the IT Student Helpdesk located and what are their hours?
A: The IT Student Helpdesk is located in the Grace Hill Jacobs building on the middle level in room MC-16. Their hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 8am-8pm, Friday 8am-5pm and they are closed on the weekends.
Q: Did I need to purchase the entire Microsoft Office Suite so that I can complete my course work?
A: No, you can either use the Office Web Apps in your Office 365, or download the software for FREE through your Office 365 account. Please visit the IT Student Helpdesk site at www.coppin.edu/itssc or contact them at 410-951-3872 for more details. You can download this software on up to five devices.
Q: I can't log into my Coppin email account, what should I do?
A: Contact the IT Student Helpdesk at 410-951-3872 or visit their office in the Grace Hill Jacobs building room MC-16.
Q: How often do I have to change my password to log on to the Coppin systems (Email, Blackboard, and EagleLINKS)?
A: You must change your password every 120 days. This is a University System of Maryland (USM) policy. You will receive a notification in your Coppin email two weeks from the date when your password must be changed. If you have any questions, contact the IT Student Helpdesk at 410-951-3872 or visit their office in the Grace Hill Jacobs building room MC-16.
Q: Do I have to use my Coppin email to contact instructors and/or staff members of Coppin State University?
A: Yes, you MUST use your Coppin issued email address for any and all correspondence with a CSU faculty or staff member. This is Coppin policy!
Q: What happens to my student account after I graduate?
A: After you graduate from Coppin State University, your email account will stay active for approximately two months. It is recommended that prior to graduation, you transfer any information, emails, and documents you want to keep from you student email account over to a personal email account, flash drive, or other cloud-computing service, such as OneDrive or Google Drive.
Q: Where are the open computer labs located on-campus and what are their hours of operation?
A: The fall and spring Hours are as follows. Check the IT Student Helpdesk site for updated hours during the summer and winter breaks.

Q: How many sheets per semester am I allowed to print out in the computers labs before I am charged?
A: For Spring/Summer you are allotted 200 sheets and Fall/Winter you are allotted 200 sheets for printing on campus. After you reach the 200 page maximum, you will be charged 10 cents per sheet, which will be posted on your bill at the beginning of the next semester.
Q: Does Coppin State University have a mobile app?
A: Yes we do. This app can be accessed by typing in eaglemobile.coppin.edu into your smartphone’s webrowser (i.e. Safari, Yahoo). Most smartphone devices allow you the option of pinning this site to your home screen for easy access. Please know that the functionality of the app is updated frequently.
Q: Can I download the app for Blackboard and access my courses?
A: Yes, you can. The app; however, does not have as much functionality as when you are using Blackboard on a laptop or desktop. The Blackboard app is free for Coppin students and faculty to download. This app is available in the iTunes store, and on android.
Q: Are TechKNOW Squad members paid?
A: No, they are student volunteers who offer their time to help fellow students gain awareness about CSU campus technologies.
Q: Can I become a TechKNOW Squad member?
A: Yes, but you must be able to show your expertise in the use of campus technologies, as well as dedicate your time as a member in attending regular meetings, and activities. Please contact send an email to email@example.com if you are interested in learning how to become a TechKNOW Squad member.
