Blackboard Learn will be down for scheduled maintenance and upgrade from Friday, May 24, 2019 to Monday, May 27, 2019

Blackboard Learn will be down for scheduled maintenance and upgrade from Friday, May 24, 2019 to Monday, May 27, 2019.   During this time, faculty and students will not be able to access any of the Blackboard Learn services (e.g., grading student work, posting announcements, accessing the Grade Center, uploading content, creating tests/quizzes, etc.) or TurnItIn.  Blackboard shells have been created for summer courses, so faculty are encouraged to work on summer course development prior to the outage.

This scheduled outage does not impact the other campus technologies (e-mail; Skype for Business; EagleLINKS; Coppin webpage; analytics; network drives; etc.)  Each of these services will operate as normal.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, this is a necessary upgrade in preparation for the next academic year.  Please govern yourselves accordingly.  Additional information is listed below. WHAT ARE THE DATES OF OUTAGE?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE OUTAGE?

At the end of the academic year, the Information Technology Division upgrades Blackboard to a newer version.  To complete the upgrade, we must completely take Blackboard offline.  After the upgrade, faculty and students will experience newer features and a better Blackboard user experience.

 

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NEWER FEATURES?

Faculty will notice subtle, yet powerful, changes, including:

  • Create recordings for feedback
  • Enhancements to the Grade Center (view full titles of Grade Center columns, view as many columns as the size of your window will allow, and enter into Grade Center full-screen mode to make the most of your desktop experience)
  • Clear multiple choice selection in the online testing environment
  • Additional attempts in anonymous grading

 

WHY WAS THIS TIME SELECTED?

Traditionally, the upgrade is done at the end of May.  The outage period (Friday, May 24, 2019 to Monday, May 27, 2019) occurs after the last day to submit grades and before the start of summer courses.  It is a historically low usage time on the Blackboard system, and an outage would not impact active courses or end-of-semester grading.

 

WHEN WILL FALL 2019 COURSES BE CREATED?

The Fall 2019 courses will be created in June, after the Blackboard upgrade and the selection of the new lecture capture tool.  

 

WHAT WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THE UPGRADE?

With the exception of Blackboard and TurnItIn, all of campus systems will be available.  The following systems will operate as normal:

  • EagleLINKS (eaglelinks.coppin.edu)  
  • SharePoint
  • Email
  • Skype for Business
  • Network Drives (H:, K:, J:, etc.)
  • Telephones
  • Campus Analytics
  • Blackboard Connect (www.blackboardconnect.com)
