Coppin State Technology Director recognized as successful professional under 40

The Daily Record has named Coppin State University’s Director of Instructional Technology & Training, Dr. Dionne N. Curbeam, to its 2016 VIP List - Very Important Professionals - Successful by 40.

A panel of judges comprised of previous VIP winners, sift through a candidate pool of professional Marylanders 40 years of age and younger and assess their professional accomplishments, community service and the impact of their achievements.

“This year’s VIP List honorees were selected for the significant contributions they are making to their professions and to improving their communities,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. “VIP List honorees are the ones to watch. They are the next generation of leaders across our state, and The Daily Record takes great pride in recognizing their achievements and looks forward to hearing about their even greater accomplishments in the future.”

Dr. Curbeam, who joined Coppin State in 2007, received the good news by email shortly before the list was released to the public. She immediately called her mother and aunt.

Two months ago when Curbeam was notified that she had been nominated, she thought it was “neat” and “kind of cool!”

Once she was awarded, she said, “I’m really excited that I won!” Curbeam was even more humbled when she viewed the list of the other 2016 awardees. “I’m on the list with some real heavy-hitters; these people are giants in their field!”

Curbeam, notable in her own right, has made her mission at Coppin State ”to shape a culture where faculty effectively use technology to promote student achievement, retention, and graduation.”

“I enjoy enhancing the lives of other people and seeing what a difference I can make,” says Curbeam.

Her ultimate goal is to make certain faculty and students are sufficiently prepared for the digital superhighway.

This year’s honorees will be recognized and celebrated at a reception Aug. 25 at The Pier V Hotel in downtown Baltimore. For a complete list of honorees, click here: 2016 VIP Winners
