Baltimore, MD – Coppin State University has joined the ranks of universities and colleges across the country as an official participant in the Post 9/11 Yellow Ribbon Education Program also known as the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Post 9/11 Yellow Ribbon Program went into effect August 24, 2015 thru July 31, 2016. Under the guidelines of the program’s agreement, the university and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) will provide matching funds to cover all or a portion of the eligible student’s tuition not covered under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
“The Yellow Ribbon program puts Coppin State University in a position to better support veterans who have protected our borders. Further, our participation in this initiative demonstrates our commitment to align with national policies and mandates that support the level of service that we want to deliver to our veteran population,” says Troy Miller, associate vice president for Enrollment Management.
The Post 9/11 Yellow Ribbon is an extension of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, passed in 2008, where schools commit to assist eligible students to partially or fully fund the unmet portion of the tuition and fee expenses that exceed the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill national cap. The school decides the dollar amount that will be contributed toward each participant and the maximum number of participants to be awarded during the academic year. The VA then matches the contribution provided by the institution. The program is only open to veterans and their dependent children who are entitled to the maximum benefit rate.
Coppin State University’s Yellow Ribbon Program has designated up to $1,000 in tuition relief for up to eight undergraduate students per academic year. Students must apply to the program each year and are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
