Dr. Uddin has been chosen to present his solar cell work at the Low Carbon Earth Summit-2011 (LCES-2011) and he will also be a co-organizer of the Track 7-1-13: Miniature Solar Cells with a theme of “Leading Green Economy, Returning to the Harmony Nature”, which will be held during October 19-26, 2011 at World Exposition Center, Dalian, China.

Dr. Mintesinot Jiru and student Britney Chase presented a paper entitled “Urban Survival: a community-based model for Environmental and Nutritional Security” on the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities 2009 Conference that was held at Widener University in Pennsylvania from October 11 - 13, 2009.

Dr. Mintesinot Jiru and students (Zainab Boone-Kukoyi, Shenia Turner, Moswen Maxwell), presented a paper entitled “Coal plantations: Impact on ecosystem sustainability and human health” on the Second Faculty Annual Research Conference.

Hybrid Solar Cell Program

Dr. Jamal Uddin received a Department of Defense/TEDCO Maryland Technology Development Corporation grant in the amount of $81,000 for his Hybrid Solar Cell Program.

The manuscript by Dr. Jamal Uddin and Dr. Fred Amah, et al., "A review of the contribution of Electron transfer reactions in the quenching of photo-excited Ru( 2,2'- bipyridine - 4,4'- dicarboxylate)34 - with CoL33+ or MV2+ ( L: 2,2'- bipyridine, 2,2': 6,6'-terpyridine or ethylenediamine)" has been accepted for publication at the “International Journal of Academic Research”, Baku, Azerbaijan. It is scheduled to be published on September 28, 2009.

Dr. Jamal Uddin received two mini grants: FITC Teaching and Learning Research Impact and FRDC Research (5-27-2009).

Coppin State University/Department of Natural Sciences Use of Tegrity Technologies Reaches Abroad

Dr. Alfred N. Amah, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Chemistry Programs in the Department of Natural Sciences has been invited to attend the 41st Annual Meeting of the Liberian Studies Association (LSA) which takes place in Monrovia , Liberia from May 13-15, 2009. Dr. Amah is expected to present a paper and discussion on “Recent Developments and Uses of Tegrity Technologies in Teaching and Learning Chemistry in the Department of Natural Sciences at Coppin State University” with the hope of introducing this Tegrity Technology in two of Liberia’s higher institutions of learning: the University of Liberia and Cuttington University.

Power shift '09 conference

February 27 - March 2 2009, over 12,000 students and faculty from around the world convened a Power shift '09 conference at the D.C. Convention Center demanding the President and Congress rebuild the economy by passing bold, just climate and energy policy that prioritizes renewable energy and green jobs.

This was a conference filled with most energetic and committed individuals. Coppin took part in this historic gathering by sending its students and faculty.

Dr. Uddin Presents at the Inter-American Photochemical Society

Dr. Jamal Uddin received a Coppin State University Travel Award to attend the Inter-American Photochemical Society 19th Winter Conference, January 2-5, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Uddin attended the conference and presented his research titled, "Photoinduced Electron Transfer Quenching and Sugar Effects on the Electrostatic Interaction Between an Anionic Ru(II) Complex and Cationic Bipyridinium Derivatives Functionalized with Boronic Acids".

Dr. Jamal Uddin has been accepted on the Editorial Review Board for the Scientific Journal International.

Dr. Uddin Presents at American Chemical Society

Dr. Jamal Uddin attended the American Chemical Society 236th National Meeting from August 17 – 21, 2008 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Uddin presented a poster titled, "Electron transfer quenching reaction of photoexcited Ru(II) by Co(III) complexes: A study in solution and crystal using Laser Spectroscopy".

Dr. Rogers Serves as NSF Panelist

Dr. Carmelle Rogers served as an invited panelist to the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The REU Science Program held an alumni panel and poster presentation on July 30-31, 2008.

Dr. Puthenpurackel Publishes Paper

Congratulations to Dr. Roy Puthenpurackel for publication of "Effect of Ayurveda Treatment on Triglyceride Level: A Pilot Study".

This paper was also accepted for poster presentation at the 2nd International Conference on Hypertension, Lipids, Diabetes, & Stroke Prevention, in Prague, Czech Republic, March 6-8, 2008.
