Ballet Master Class Friday at 10 a.m. - Coppin Celebrates Dance Week with Master Classes, Concert and Scholarship Auditions
Coppin State invites the campus and community to join us in celebrating 2019 DANCE WEEK AT COPPIN, April 26 and 27, featuring master classes, scholarship auditions and a student-faculty dance concert.
The celebration includes three master classes, a scholarship audition session and our Spring ’19 Student-Faculty Dance Concert. Events will be in the Coppin Dance Studio and James Weldon Johnson Theatre.
The dance studio is on the second floor of our Physical Education Complex (PEC). Enter the campus at Warwick Avenue; the PEC entrance is on the right. The theatre is in Johnson Auditorium Building. Enter the main campus at North Avenue, westbound; the main entrance is at the traffic circle.
MASTER CLASSES are open to all intermediate and advanced level dancers, ages 10 and up. The fee for each class is $15 for non-CSU students and $10 for students ages 12-18 and Coppin students with IDs. Pay by cash or credit card, in advance or at the door. Intermediate-advanced level ballet master class will be Friday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m., in the dance studio. Guest instructor, Christina Cottman-Pierangeli, is a former member of Dance Theater of Harlem.
Afro-jazz master class will be Saturday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m. and a Hip Hop master class will be at 4:30 p.m. in James Weldon Johnson Theater. Both classes will be taught by Demarco, a noted African, jazz and hip hop performer and teacher.
THE DANCE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION is open to new and transfer students planning to enroll in the Bachelor’s Degree Dance Program at Coppin for the fall, 2019, semester. It will be Saturday, April 27. Students should arrive in the dance studio by 11:00 a.m., dressed appropriately for ballet and modern dance classes. The audition includes one ballet, one modern dance and a private interview immediately following the movement audition. “NARRATIVES in BLACK and WHITE” Student-Faculty Dance Concert will be Friday, April 26, at 12:00 noon and Saturday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in James Weldon Johnson Theatre. It celebrates achievements of Coppin’s faculty and students during the 2018-19 academic year and is appropriate for children and adults. General admission is $20 and, for seniors and students, $10. Pay by cash or credit card, in advance or at the door. Discounted rates are available for groups.
