Dance Performance at Coppin

We prepare our students for careers in dance education and performance through scholarly inquiry, performance opportunities, choreographic projects, master classes, and teaching internships.

Our dance program has a focus on performance.

With classes, concerts, and exhibitions in our state-of-the-art practice and performance facilities, the dance program at Coppin sets the standard for our dancers, to learn, study, and advance the craft through practice and performance.

What performance opportunities are available to students?

If you’re majoring or minoring in dance, you have multiple opportunities to perform every semester, and throughout the year at special events! On campus, students perform in studio night performances as well as the spring dance concert, and can audition for the Dance Ensemble. There are also multiple performance opportunities for off-campus events, including:

  • Morgan State University Dance Scholarship Concert

  • The American College Dance Festival Adjudication Concert

  • The Black Colleges Gala Concert

  • Maryland Council for Dance Gala Concert

Coppin State University Dance Ensemble

The Dance Ensemble is an audition-only dance group open to all dance majors and minors interested in African, modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and tap dance performance. It provides students (and alums!) the chance to train and perform with professional dance artists from national and international dance companies, as well as schools of dance.

Our mission is to give each of our students comprehensive academic and performance learning opportunities. We design these opportunities to guide our students as they are developing personal and professional career goals.

Ensemble members are also able to hone critical and creative skills through masterclasses, guest workshops, and performances. And there are even opportunities to flex other creative skills outside of performance! Directors and guest choreographers share other paths in the dance industry, stretching the imagination of every dancer in the program.

Dance Ensemble auditions happen at the start of every semester. We hope to see you there!
