Student Parent Organization

Mission

We provide student-parents a strong support system that helps make college more academically, financially, and socially manageable.

The goal of the Student Parent Organization is to be a network where student-parents can come to feel supported through their Coppin journey. We host events, conversations, and programs that encourage student success, increase retention, promote student engagement, and active learning.

We help parents connect with the resources they need to excel academically. Started by a student-parent, Denise Williams, we are a safe space to learn about campus and community resources, discuss challenges and hardships, problem-solve, and also share our joys and accomplishments.

We hope to see you at our next meeting!

Denise T. Williams started the Coppin Student Parent Organization in spring 2015 at the encouragement of Dean O'Bryant of the College of Behavioral and Sciences.

She cites her experience as an academic advisor to Coppin students as her motivation to do something to support student-parents. She reflects, "I have experienced advising students who went through the struggle of maintaining their grades or dropping out of school, because they are pregnant or don’t have a caretaker for their children while going to college. I saw myself in some of those students."
