CSU History
Coppin State University, founded
in 1900, is a public, state-assisted HBCU (Historically Black College and
University), whose primary mission is to provide high-quality undergraduate
and graduate educational programs in the humanities, sciences and human
services.
A leader in urban education, Coppin State University continues
to develop as a model comprehensive, urban, liberal arts university that
offers innovative, career-oriented, instructional programs designed to serve
the needs of the central city, the metropolitan area, the State of Maryland,
and the nation.
