Program Components
Upward Bound

The program consist of several key components:

Saturday Sessions:
Three Saturdays a month during the school year students come to Coppin’s campus to get tutorial assistance, S.A.T. Prep or cultural enrichment. There is also a component that provides building social and academic skills. To name a few, Self esteem building, Time Management, Test Taking Strategies etc.

College Tour:
Each year Baltimore City Public Schools juniors and seniors participate in College Tour. The program maps out a visit of colleges along the eastern seaboard. This allows students to see the various types of colleges and universities and exposes them to options in pursuing post secondary education. Campuses welcome us with tours and questions and answer forums to enable students to better understand Admissions process, Financial Aid, college academic programs and majors.

Summer Session:
This is the biggest and most crucial component for the program. Students live on the campus of Coppin State University for six weeks immediately after the closing of schools to prepare them for the next school year. The summer component prepares them for their next academic set of course and requirements. The Baltimore Area Upward Bound programs consisting of five other UB Programs put together social programming students giving them an opportunity to meet other U.B. constituents across the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.

Parent Advisory Board:
With the many transitions students have in preparing for college C.S.U. U.B. wants the parents to be just as prepared for the transitions. The advisory board consists of parents who come up with ideas on fundraising and topics to assist parents in providing every possible element to insure a child’s success in graduating high school and attending and graduating from a four year accredited institution.
