Placement Options

Students applying to the Helene Fuld School of Nursing RN to BSN Completion Program have three placement options in which they can qualify for, they are Challenge Examinations, Direct Transfer of Credits and Transition Courses.



Challenge Examinations

Eligibility for this option:

  • Adult Nursing
  • Maternal Child Nursing
  • Psychiatric Nursing

Credits Awarded:
A total of 30 Nursing Credits are awarded upon successful completion of all three (3) examinations. General Education credits from an accredited college or university may be accepted based on a review of official transcripts.

Direct Transfer Of Credits

Eligibility for this option:

  • RN’s who graduated after December 31, 1978 from a Maryland School of Nursing
  • Graduates from 1979 through 1986 are eligible for this option, but they must complete the RN to BSN completion program by 1986.
  • Graduates after 1986 must enroll in a BSN completion program within 7 years of graduation

Credits Awarded:
As many as 30 Nursing Credits and 30 General Education Credits may be gained via direct transfer of course credits.

Transition Courses

Eligibility for this option:

  • RN’s licensed in the State of Maryland who graduated more than 7 years ago from a Maryland School of Nursing
  • RN’s who graduated from an out-of-state School of Nursing, but are licensed in the State of Maryland.

Transition Courses:

  • Social Science/Humanities
  • Scientific Concepts
  • Nursing Concepts

Credits Awarded:
A total of 60 credits are awarded upon successful completion of all three (3) transition courses.

Note: Candidates must enter RN to BSN Completion Program within two (2) years after completion of the transition courses.
