The Official student newspaper of Coppin State University is The Courier. The College, through the editorial Board, entrusts students editors and staff with the responsibilities of producing the newspaper in accord with the canons of responsible journalism. Any student who is in good standing with the College and possesses the requisite skills is eligible to be considered for any position on the newspaper staff.
Since its initial publication, The Courier has enjoyed a history and a tradition of freedom of expression under the guidance and support of the College. The Courier is a medium for the careful and unbiased dissemination of news, information, and opinions to the Coppin State University community. Its staff is expected to strive for excellence in all of its operation and practices. The Courier is an integral part of the educational program of the college, serving as a laboratory for students who wish to learn through their involvement, the craft of journalism and/or the related business and management skills relevant to publications. The student newspaper serves to further the education of its readers by expanding their horizons, enhancing their understanding of the world in which they live, and by stimulating intellectual growth through free and responsible exchange of information and ideas. Content of articles, editorials, and other materials appearing in the newspaper does not necessarily reflect the opinion of Coppin State University or its student body. Editorial judgments must be governed by the tenets of proper journalism, such as the avoidance of libel, indecency, undocumented allegations, and attacks on personal integrity, harassment, and innuendo.
The courier is the student newspaper that serves to further the education of its readers by expanding their horizons, enhancing their understanding of the world in which they live and by stimulating intellectual growth through free and responsible exchange of information and ideas.
The courier office is located in the basement of the Tawes Center.
