On behalf of the Office of Student Activities I would like to welcome you to the Coppin State University Intramural Athletics web page. This academic school year we plan to make significant advancements in our Intramural program. Plans to add soccer and volleyball to the sports roster are currently in the works. We also plan to place our university championship teams in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association regional and national playoffs.
The Purpose of the Intramural Athletics Program at Coppin State University is to provide organized and structured competition among C.S.U. students, with emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play. The Office of Student Activities/Intramural Athletics aims that students will utilize Intramurals to make worthy use of leisure time, obtain improved skills (social and athletic,) and enhance their overall collegiate experience. There are several ways that you can get involved:
- Organized competition (team sports) - Requires a team manager to register a team, and a roster of a minimum of 6 C.S.U. students. (Refer to Program Guidelines for Registration information, fees and eligibility requirements.)
- Open recreation- Coppin Center provides swimming, basketball, and racquetball, dance/aerobic studio. Days and times vary from month to month.
- Intramural work study- Eligible students will work with the Intramural Program as scorekeepers, officials and monitors. Designated students are authorized to supervise sporting events, and will be instructed on the rules of the sports, and officiating techniques. Those interested in helping may request and submit a volunteer application form. (Forms available in the Office of Student Activities.)
- Spectator- Fan support enhances the game environment and is strongly encouraged; however spectators are held to the same sportsmanship expectations, and rules.
Every student is given an equal opportunity to participate, regardless of physical ability or skill level. Furthermore the student body has the opportunity to be involved in the planning, organization and implementation of activities by submitting petitions for any activity or sport that they wish to partake in. All activities will be structured to ensure that safety requirements are met, nevertheless due to the nature of physical activity involved it is recognized that injury may occur. All participants must sign an Assumption of Risk/Release form, available herein and in the Student Activities Office. The website will be updated frequently, so that students can ascertain, and satisfy any inquires about up coming events and schedules. We look forward to your participation and helping us make this Intramural season one of the best yet!
