Special Assistant to the President

The Special Assistant to the President is a senior level position and is responsible for directing the operations of the President's Office while maintaining constant interface with the President's Cabinet and Executive Council to ensure that key issues are being proactively addressed. The Special Assistant serves as the President's liaison to various university related committees, including the Board of Visitors, the University's Foundation Board as well as governmental and other external organizations. In addition, the Special Assistant manages the flow of communications in and out of the President's office to ensure consistent and responsive message delivery to key university stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, the University System of Maryland, various governing boards, and others as appropriate.  The Special Assistant to the President also plays a key communications role relative to directing the university's media and marketing activities.

Luwanda W. Jenkins serves as Special Assistant to the President. Ms. Jenkins brings extensive, results-driven leadership experience in the areas of marketing, community relations and public-sector minority business enterprise program development in both the public and private sector. Prior to recently joining Coppin State University, Ms. Jenkins served as Governor Martin O'Malley's Special Secretary for The Governor's Office of Minority Affairs where she was instrumental in leading several reforms and initiatives which generated record gains in the amount of minority business participation in State contracting. She is a graduate of Towson State University and the Johns Hopkins University where she received her master's degree in business management.
