Kweisi Mfume Delivering Coppin State University’s Fall Commencement Keynote
Published: Friday December 7, 2012

On Friday, December 14, 2012, Mr. Kweisi Mfume, former chief executive officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and United States congressman, will deliver the keynote address for the 2012 Fall commencement exercises at Coppin State University.

The commencement will be held in the campus’ Physical Education Center (PEC).

“I am honored that Mr. Mfume has accepted the University’s invitation to speak at the Fall commencement,” says Interim Provost, Ron L. Collins Sr. “A Baltimore native and HBCU graduate with an enviable record of public service, Mr. Mfume is uniquely qualified to inspire our graduates to engage in excellence in venues outside the classroom. His messages are always positive and dynamic, leaving audiences with much to feast upon.”

In addition to a bestselling autobiography, “No Free Ride,” Mr. Mfume has received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the NAACP Image Award and the 2005 Telly Award for the Television documentary “Ticket to Freedom.”

In 2011, Mr. Mfume served as a consultant to AT&T of North America and in April 2012 he was appointed to the Platform Committee of the Democratic National Convention.
