Students should be in good academic standings with the university and will interview with a member of the Sports Management faculty.
- How many students are accepted into the Sport Management program each year?
Approximately thirty new students are accepted into the program each year.
- What are the criteria used to be retained in the program?
Students who drop below a 2.5 are placed on probation. Students who drop below a 2.0 are released from the program.
- Does the curriculum provide for different career options in Sport Management?
Students are required to choose a concentration in Business, Marketing, Journalism, or Pre-Athletic Training.
- Does the curriculum provide for different career options outside of Sport Management?
The concentration courses along with the core sports management course will also prepare students to compete for entry level positions outside of the sports arena.
- What percentage of the total credits for the degree program will be in Sport Management courses?
Sixty-three credits out of the required 120, are within the sports management and concentration curriculum for sports business, marketing, and journalism. For pre-athletic training students, seventy-five credits are taken within the sports management, kinesiology, health, and biology programs.

All students are required to take: Sports Governance and History, Facility and Event Management, Community Recreation, Sports Law, Problems in Urban Recreation, Psychological Aspects of Sports, Organization and Administration of Sports, Practicum, Internship (except pre-athletic training), Media Relations in Sports (except pre-athletic training).
- Is there a supervised Sport Management internship that is part of the program?
Sport Management major students must complete one practicum (6 credits - 300 hours) and one internship (12 credits - 500 hours - field experience). These work experiences are designed to involve students in a professional environment outside the classroom. Field experiences are carefully selected by the students and approved by their academic advisor.

Students have interned with the following organizations: Baltimore Bayhawks (Indoor Lacrosse), Baltimore Blast (Indoor Soccer), Baltimore County Parks and Recreation, Baltimore City Parks and Recreation, Baltimore Orioles (MLB), Baltimore Ravens (NFL), Fox 5 (DC) Sports, Maryland Nighthawks (ABA Basketball), Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB), Pittsburgh Sports Museum, Prince Georges's County Parks and Recreation, Special Olympics of Maryland, WNST- 1570 AM Sports Talk Radio, YMCA of Silver Spring, Coppin State Sports Information, CSU Volleyball, CSU Baseball, CSU Intramurals.
- What are the requirements for graduating from the program?
Students must complete Sports Management and concentration courses with a 'C' or better. Students enrolling in the Practicum and Internship courses are required to earn a 'B' or better. Biology and General Psychology are two General Education Requirements that students must pass with a 'C' or better. Sports management students must complete the University's GER requirements.
- What degree do the graduates of the Sport Management program receive?
Graduates will earn a Bachelor's of Science degree in Sports Management.
- How does the institution assist in placement of the Sport Management graduates?
The Sports Management faculty and the Office of Career Development assist all students in identifying, preparing, and applying for graduate school as well as summer and fulltime employment. Students just need to visit their advisor or the Career Development office.
