Truth Stands: Theatre Performance

Truth Stands; a play by Cynthia Hardeman kicks off the theatre season

BALTIMORE—Coppin Repertory Theatre will raise the curtain on its 2013-2014 theatre season with the world premiere of Truth Stands by Cynthia Hardeman. The production will run for a limited engagement of five performances, October 24-28, 2013 in the Theatre Lab on the lower level of the Grace Hill Jacobs Building.

Truth Stands tells the powerful story of two young people drawn together by their mutual love for hip hop music. While trying to find the courage to stand in their individual truths, a secret is revealed; their worlds collide, and everything in their lives is turned upside down.

Cynthia Hardeman, a native of Kansas City, Missouri is a full-time second career theatre student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Truth Stands, her first full-length play, was selected during the summer of 2012 for presentation in the WordBridge Summer Program held at Centerstage. The Coppin production is the first fully staged presentation of this play.

Directed by D. Wambui Richardson, the cast includes sophomores Rachael Williams as Junebug, Jaylen Crawford as J. D., and Tanya Russell as Momz, along with senior Destin Tevis as Pops. Other members of the creative team include Allan Sean Weeks, set and lighting designer, Coppin junior Kaye Love, sound designer and Bresean Jenkins, costume designer and coordinator.

The performance schedule for Truth Stands is as follows:

  • Thursday, October 24th at 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, October 25th at 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 26th at 8:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 27th at 3:00 p.m.
  • Monday, October 28th at 8:00 p.m.

Ticket prices are $15.00 for general admission, $10.00 for seniors and non-Coppin students, and $5.00 for Coppin students with IDs. Season subscriptions at reduced rates are still available.
