The School of Management Science and Economics (SMSE) at Coppin, formerly the Department of Management Science and Economics, establishes a unique program in the State of Maryland. The Management Science and Economics program has provided needed quality and affordable management education to many in Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, in the Nation, and abroad.
The School of Management Science and Economics, consistent with the mission of Coppin State University, prepares students for successful managerial careers in private and public organizations, graduate and professional studies, and entrepreneurial endeavors.
The program uses the scientific method, quantitative and qualitative modeling, computer modeling and other analytical tools to illuminate and solve managerial problems. Statistical analysis and data are brought to management decision processes. Students learn to be proactive rather than reactive in resolving management problems in both private and public sectors. The program is flexible in design and structured to meet most individual needs. It includes internships and practices to enhance the classroom experience and provide pragmatic as well as theoretical exposures.
The management science faculty is committed to students in SMSE and to students in the broader university community. The faculty members hold expertise in the following areas of specialization: accounting, management, management information systems, marketing/international business, economics and finance, managerial statistics, statistical modeling, production and operations management, and law.
SMSE offers a degree in management science with wider choices for students to concentrate in accounting, banking and finance, economics, management, marketing, and management information systems. Accordingly, the school has three departments.
