Overview

Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for an Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management.  Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban, residential, historically black university offering 28 undergraduate majors, 12 graduate majors, and 8 certificate programs; nearly 4,000 students are enrolled in day, evening, on-line, and weekend undergraduate and graduate courses.

Job Summary

  The Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management will report to the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs and will have direct managerial responsibility and oversight for the Offices of Admissions, Records & Registration, Financial Aid and Summer Enrichment programs.  A key leader in the University’s administration, the Associate Vice President will bring to Coppin in-depth knowledge and experience in higher-education enrollment management strategies, a demonstrated record of using technology and data in developing and implementing an effective recruitment plan as well as a broad knowledge of best practices among equivalent institutions of higher education in all areas of enrollment management. 

  The Associate Vice President will provide specific knowledge and experience in marketing and positioning an institution for effective, successful recruitment of new students and improved student retention. The Associate Vice President will have the necessary skills to involve the entire campus in the enrollment management process and will value partnering with various external communities, conveying the University’s programs and activities knowledgeably.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cutting-edge, comprehensive plans for strategic enrollment management and marketing and will collaborate with the entire university community to implement those plans.
  • Capacity to be a team player and to build a team with a strong sense of integrity and acceptance of differing points of view.
  • Proven success in implementing enrollment strategies that favorably impact incoming student enrollment and level of preparedness.
  • Capacity to use student information systems in enrollment strategies.
  • Familiarity with urban commuter settings and an awareness of the challenges in student information systems.
  • Understanding of how to attract and retain students in both traditional and non-traditional programs.
  • Understanding of marketing and the development of effective marketing strategies.
  • Success as a change agent.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education

  • An appropriate advanced degree desired; doctorate preferred  

Experience

  • At least 2 years of Senior Level experience in an enrollment management position.
  • At least 3 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in enrollment management.
  • Successful experience as a director or mid-level administrator
  • Experience in the developing and implementing of strategic enrollment plans and projection reports based on market-driven data analysis as well as experience in an urban, public, commuter-oriented setting, working with diverse populations.
  • A demonstrated record of successful leadership that promotes diversity in student recruitment and retention, and evidence of effective interaction with multiple constituencies in a culturally and economically diverse community.  

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Have the tactical ability to develop and articulate the University’s enrollment vision relative to its mission and work collaboratively with the leadership team to put together a plan to carry out the University’s enrollment vision.
  • Have the leadership ability to think strategically, to prioritize effectively and to act decisively with regard to implementing the University’s enrollment plan.
  • Have the strategic ability to understand and adapt to the changes impacting higher education in the twenty-first century and to integrate significant trends into the strategic enrollment plan.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. strong strategic-enrollment planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and administration and the community at large.
  • Extensive knowledge of data analysis and reporting.
  • Outstanding supervisory skills.
