Campus Portal: A Window into our Campus
The Campus Portal is a user-friendly interface to everything on the Internet. It filters content and delivers it to the people who need to see it, and can be customized to suit our needs. Think of MyYahoo! with a business twist. When moving campus applications to the Internet, Campus Portal is a good place to start.
PeopleSoft Campus Portal is tailor-made for the people who use it. It's a pre-built, pre-packaged portal platform that enables our campus community—students, administration, employees, faculty, alumni, visitors, prospects, vendors, and more—to access appropriate applications, from a home page customized to their roles at our institution. Students see registration and financial aid information. Faculty can see payroll and benefits information as well as gradebook data. Alumni can see the homecoming schedule and donation information. It's the web front-end for our back-office applications.
Examples of a Campus Portal in Action
- Take a prospective student. The Campus Portal takes over as soon as a person logs in. A prospect can request information, apply for admission, analyze which college credits might transfer, and apply for financial aid online via a direct link to FAFSA on the web. Prospective students work with the institution and its service partners directly. And all work is done online at their convenience.
- From a personalized portal home page, a current student can link to PeopleSoft Student Administration to see what courses they need to graduate. A link to the online course catalog helps them determine which of the pertinent courses are best. One click on "enroll," button and they can register for their courses. Once enrolled, they can immediately link to their account and arrange a payment.
- Faculty has one-click access to PeopleSoft Gradebook, an online class-management tool. They can post assignments, grades, and detailed notes for access by students. Customized links can be added to the faculty home page that connect them to their online academic community, including online course sites, academic resources, and library services.
- An advancement officer planning a trip to an alumni event can access Contributor Relations to review donor gift histories, generate communication to volunteers, and update and check on event activity. With customized links from his home page, he can make travel arrangements for the trip through a travel service agency.
