Performance Opportunities
Performance Opportunities
Students perform each semester for the studio night performances and a spring dance concert. Other performance venues include: (1) Morgan State University Dance Scholarship Concert; The American College Dance Festival Adjudication Concert; The Black Colleges Gala Concert; and Maryland Council for Dance Gala Concert, to mention a few.
Choreographic opportunities are also available to students. Students are encouraged to produce works for various college and community venues and audition a piece for the Student-Faculty Spring Dance Concert.
Dance Ensemble
The Coppin State University Dance Ensemble provides students and alumnus an opportunity to work with professional dance artists who have performed professionally for a number of years with national and international dance companies and schools of dance.
The mission of the Coppin State University Dance Ensemble is to provide each student with a comprehensive academic and performing learning experience designed to develop their personal and professional career goals. Students are encouraged to hone their critical and creative skills by attending guest workshops and performances. The directors and guest choreographers concentrate on exposing students to the unlimited opportunities in the dance field by "stretching" the imagination of each and every dancer in the program.
The Coppin State University Dance Ensemble is open to dance majors and minors interested in performing African, modern dance, jazz, hip hop, ballet and tap. All Dance Company members are required to register for at least one dance technique class per semester, and attend monthly meetings and movement workshops. Students may audition for the Coppin State University Dance Ensemble at the beginning of each semester.
Contact Alice Howes for more information regarding classes, audition process, guest workshops, performances and dance festivals at ahowes@coppin.edu or 410.951.6880.
