Academic Honors

The School of Arts and Sciences' faculty members are dynamic in their determination to educate students in a manner that encourages them all to soar, to strive for academic excellence, regardless of their background. Students undertake a curriculum which is designed to encourage them to become thoughtful humanists and leaders in a dynamic, diverse, and global society.

Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society

Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society is the International English Honor Society. It is also a member of the Association of College Honor Societies which was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. Our Chapter at Coppin is called the Phi Lamda. Our Honor Society chapter admits students with 3.0GPA and keeps track of them as they navigate through the rigors of Academics to be successful students. We started holding a Students’ conference in conjunction with the Department of Humanities in 2009, and this conference has been a huge success. Exhibiting high standards of academic excellence, and serving society by fostering literacy are part of the mission of Sigma Tau Delta which we always stick with at Coppin State University. Dr. Blessing Diala-Ogamba is currently the Advisor assisted by Ms. Debora Burgess-Brunson and Ms. Latrice Curtis.

Phi Alpha Theta

As a professional society, Phi Alpha Theta’s mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. The SAS Dean’s list is posted in academic buildings and on the SAS website each fall and spring semester.
