Humanities Minors

The Department of Humanities offers the following four undergraduate minors:

Minor in English

The minor in English provides students with the opportunity to shape their own study of a broad range of literary genres and traditions through a series of upper level courses in American, British, and/or World Literature. In addition to a knowledge of literary history and close reading and analytical skills, the English minor enhances a student's writing skills.

Minor in Journalism

The minor in Journalism provides students with a knowledge of the history of journalism, an awareness of the role of media in society, and the practical skills necessary in any journalistic process, including techniques of gathering and reporting news, newswriting and editing skills, and publication design. In addition, students may elect a course in such areas as photography or television production, which can enhance journalistic training. An important component of the Journalism minor is the opportunity to practice skills learned in the classroom through journalism workshops and internships with local newspapers, magazines, and radio and television stations.
Students who elect a minor in Journalism must complete with a grade of "C" or higher the following courses in addition to the GER:

Minor in Philosophy

The minor in Philosophy provides students with a knowledge of the history of philosophical thought and teaches the skill of critical thinking. Courses are divided into those concentrating on a particular philosophic problem and those which analyze the philosophic thought of a particular historical period.
Students who elect a minor in philosophy must complete with a grade of "C" or higher the following courses in addition to the GER:

Minors In French And Spanish

The minors in French and Spanish are designed to provide the student with a basic structure for future study and to prepare the student for career opportunities. Requirements for minors in French and Spanish: a total of six French or Spanish courses, one of which must be above 202 level. The course level can be determined by placement testing when appropriate.
