Foreign Languages Program

Goals and Outcomes

The Foreign Languages Program provides students with a background useful in such fields as English, linguistics, philosophy, history, political science, management science, and international studies and trade. The program offers courses in French, Latin, and Spanish. Satisfactory completion of these courses at the appropriate level should enable students to

• Pass the language requirements for graduate work,
• Read the literature that is required for research in the sciences, and
• Communicate on a practical level while traveling or while working in nursing, social work, criminology, counseling, or education.

Minors in French and Spanish

The minors in French and Spanish are designed to provide the student with a basic structure for future study and to prepare the student for career opportunities. Requirements for minors in French and Spanish: a total of six French or Spanish courses, one of which must be above the 202 level. The course level can be determined by placement testing when appropriate.

Eligibility Requirements

• Completion of three semesters of college work
• 18 Credits in Spanish
• Minimum of B average in all Spanish courses
• Rank upper 35% of class
• Show a genuine interest in things Hispanic
• Be of good moral character
