The Returning Student Room Reservation Process

The Returning Student Room Reservation Process will be done in three parts over three days. It is very important that you read this information very carefully in order to be certain that your application is processed correctly. Please understand that it is your responsibility to complete the requirements needed to secure your desired request. The parts of the process are as follows:

The Single Room Lottery Day One, 2:30 p.m.-Until completed

Note: There will be only twenty (20) single rooms available in Dedmond Hall.

  1. Students interested in applying for single rooms must be at least a junior. The priority for the single lottery will be as follows:
    • First lottery: Seniors with 3.0 or higher gpa will have the first preference.
    • Second Lottery: if there are spaces after the first lottery then Juniors with 3.0 or higher gpa will be given the second preference.
    • If there are spaces after the first and second lotteries then seniors and juniors with 2.0 or higher gpa will have the next preference.
    • If there are spaces after the first and second lotteries then Sophomores, then Freshmen, with a 3.0 or higher gpa will have the next preference.

  2. Once the lottery is over, a waiting list will be developed for use in the event of cancellations. Priorities for the single room waiting list will be the same as the four preference levels list above in item one.

Interested students must be present with a blank money order for $100.00 and present it along with all the required documentation.

Same Room Reservations (excluding single rooms, all of Dedmond 4th & 5th floors and Daley 3rd & 4th floors) Day Two 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

During this time, students who are interested in returning to the same room they are currently assigned to may reserve that room. Reserving your room on this date assures you that if you do all that is required of you, you will be reassigned to the same room. If it is your intention to live in the same room next semester, then it is your responsibility to ensure that you follow the procedure to ensure proper processing.

This part of the process will take place during the second day. Students must complete all required papers and present them along with all supporting documents to the respective floor representative on this day in the main lounge exercising their options to reserve the room in which they are currently assigned. Each resident, with the exception of those currently in single rooms, will have first priority to reserve their current room.

In the event that students currently residing in the same room do not wish to be roommates for the new academic year, and both choose to exercise their right to the room, the following will apply:

  • The person who was assigned there first will have the right to the current room. Classification will not be used to resolve this issue.

  • If both residents entered the room during the same semester a lottery system will be used to determine the individual who will remain in the room and who will be re-assigned. If this does not solve the issue then both students will be automatically relocated to new assignments based on the availability of space in the residence hall.

Please take special note of the fact that if you don't reserve your room assignment you could lose your space to someone who is looking to change to another room in the suite, suite on the floor or floor in the building.

Room/Suite/Floor Changes Day Three 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Students who wish to make or request a room, suite, floor or Residence Hall change may do so on the third day. Any room that has not been claimed on second day will be available to all students on a first come first serve basis. Students who desire a building change must report to the building they want to live in and select a room from those that are available.

Students who lived in singles but did not win in the lottery will have this time to select rooms in either of our two Residence Halls.

Roommate Requests

While we cannot guarantee your request for a particular roommate will be honored, we do welcome them. Please note that any agreement made between 2 or more persons to be roommates is between those persons. If for whatever reason one of these students decides to request a change in their assignment at a later date, they may do so with or without notifying the persons they had promised to live with. Residence Life cannot require students to honor agreements to be roommates, which were made between students.

All roommate requests must be mutual, that is, your requested roommate must also have your name and signature on his/her application. Students cannot apply for a room for their roommate. Each student must be present in order to reserve a room. Putting your requested roommate's name on your application does not reserve a room for him/her. He/she must apply in person for a room, at the time of room reservation.

Please take special note of the fact that if you don't reserve your room assignment you could lose your space to someone who is looking to change to another room in the same suite, another suite on the floor, another floor in the building or another building. Failing to take part in this process could result in you being without an assignment for the Fall semester, as once this process is completed all remaining spaces will be immediately assigned to new incoming students. Students occupying a room without a roommate or whose roommate leaves, will be notified as soon as possible of the new person assigned to the room.
