Room Assignment Process

Prospective students are encouraged to apply for housing upon acceptance to Coppin State University. For step-by-step instructions on how the room assignment process occurs please view the presentation below.

Coppin State University does not maintain a compulsory on-campus residence policy. However, because of our limited number of room spaces compared to the heavy demand for on-campus housing, you should apply for housing as soon after you have been accepted to Coppin State University as possible.

The following steps describe the process for applying for and ensuring your chances of receiving an assignment in our Residence Halls. Please read this information completely and carefully.

  1. In order to be considered for on campus housing, you must first be fully admitted to the University. Once admitted, an admission package is sent. This package notifying the student of their acceptance by the University and encourages all interested in housing to contact housing directly. Please contact the Office of Housing at 410-951-6300 to have a housing application mailed to you. You can also get this from the housing section of the Coppin Web Page.
  2. You are encouraged to complete and return the Housing Application, Statement of Understanding, Housing Contract, Health Form, and $150 housing application fee immediately. Room assignments are made on a first come, first served basis, based on the date the housing application and fee are received and the availability of space.
  3. Within five days from the date your application is received in the Office of Housing, an application receipt notice is mailed to you confirming the fact that your completed application was received. This will inform you of your application date, the date the application was received (telling you your place in line or on the waiting list).
  4. The first round of assignments for new incoming students should be completed about the middle to last week of April. If you receive an assignment, you will receive a building assignment notice telling you your actual room assignment, roommate information and general information on check in, what to bring and suggestions on making the transition to on campus living. Instructions on how to ensure confirmation of your acceptance of this space will also be sent to you at this time. You will indicate your acceptance of the assignment by signing and returning the Room Assignment Confirmation/Contract Type Selection form. Failure to do this will result in the space being canceled and assigned to the next student of the waiting list.
  5. If you are on the waiting list, you are encouraged to check with us regularly concerning your housing status. If an assignment is made for you, you will be notified immediately by phone or mail or both. Off campus housing information will be available in the Office of Housing for interested students. (It should be noted that Coppin State University is not affiliated with any off campus housing sites at this time.) You are asked to inform us, the Office of Housing, on how you would like to proceed. In other words you will tell us if you wish to remain on the waiting list for housing or if you would like to be taken off the housing list because you will be making other housing arrangements.
  6. Students with an assignment can check in on the check in dates and times.
