In March 2008, Coppin State University (CSU) signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), an initiative endorsed by a coalition of over 600 colleges and universities concerned about the impacts of global warming and dedicated to reducing campus greenhouse gas emissions. As a signatory of the ACUPCC, CSU is committed to developing a comprehensive plan to reduce the University's global warming emissions and advance sustainability efforts.
To implement the terms of the ACUPCC, Dr. Reginald S. Avery appointed a Sustainability Taskforce. Over the next year, this taskforce will develop a comprehensive action plan that will include policies and procedures to reduce the University's greenhouse gas emissions; actions to make climate neutrality and sustainability a part of the educational curriculum; and an increase in research on climate change and environmental sustainability.
