Welcome from Associate Dean for Masters in Nursing Education
Joan Tilghman, RN, Ph.D, CRNP

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting the Coppin State University Helene Fuld School of Nursing, Graduate Program home page. The Graduate Program began in Fall 1999 and has continued a tradition of excellence since that time. We offer a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Post-Masters Certification Track with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) role concentration.

The Graduate Nursing programs is accredited by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses and the *National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The Graduate program received initial accreditation by the NLNAC in 2002. The Helene Fuld School of Nursing is an agency member of the Council of Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs of the National League for Nursing. The Graduate program received initial accreditation by the NLNAC in 2002.

The purpose of the FNP Program is to prepare nurses to provide advanced Primary Health Care to underserved populations in an urban setting. Our program of study integrates cultural norms, values, and health practices of underserved and vulnerable populations. Our well-integrated curriculum is the basis for our students emerging as highly qualified Family Nurse Practitioners.

Our graduates provide excellent primary health care that is culturally sensitive. Graduates of our program are prepared to practice as nurse practitioners in a variety of settings. Our graduates are eligible to apply for national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

We are excited about the possibilities our program and faculty offer to nurses seeking an advanced nursing education. Our faculty is committed to providing excellence in nursing education, practice and research. Our School of Nursing has one of the few nurse managed and School of Nursing affiliated community clinics in the United States.

I encourage you to explore the opportunities available in our Graduate Program. Feel free to contact us at the Helene Fuld School of Nursing to discuss opportunities for you to become a part of the Coppin family and truly experience excellence in all aspects of academic life. At Coppin Sate University you will find yourself in a "caring" environment encouraged to reach your highest potential supported by faculty scholars who believe students come first.

We welcome all inquiries. You may contact me for further information, help or assistance.
