Dance Performance Concentration

Dance Performance Concentration Requirements

The dance performance and choreography track provides high-quality training in the area of modern, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and African-based dance forms. Students are encouraged to perform as a member of the Coppin State University Dance Ensemble and participate in regional and national conferences such as The American College Dance Festival, Dance Baltimore, Black Colleges Dance Conference, and Maryland Council for Dance.

The dance faculty has performed professionally nationally and internationally with such companies as the Forces of Nature, Urban Bush Women, Baltimore Ballet and Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble, to mention a few. The faculty continues to work at their craft by choreographing for regional dance companies, and teaching master classes and workshops throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Perspective students must be admitted into the university, and attend a movement placement audition and perform a short solo dance to be admitted into the dance program. Dance minors may register for classes without auditioning (see dance minor for more information).
