Dear Parents,
Please be aware of these important dates:
- Progress reports were handed out on March 8th ;
- Student Identification Badges were distributed on March 8th. There will be a $5.00 replacement fee and a lost/stolen badge. No exceptions!
- Students are not allowed in any University building unsupervised;
- Week day and Saturday detentions begin on Monday, March 12, 2007;
- Wednesday, March 21, 2007 there will be a Mandatory Parent Meeting/ Becoming A Charter School to be held in the Tawes Building 2nd floor at 6:00 p.m.
Since the school year began in June of 2006, the rules that were established during the summer orientation have not changed. School begins at 8:00 A.M. and all students are expected to be in complete uniform.
At this time, overall student behavior has shown improvement. There are still a few students who have difficulty following the rules. We are very concerned about students in this category. Please impress upon your child the importance of following the direction of the teacher the first time that directions are given. In addition, remind them that talking back to any adult on campus is unacceptable and will at no time be tolerated. Stronger reprimands must occur for students who have not grown in this area at this time.
One quick reminder and request for parent support:
Daily attendance and punctuality are the foundation of academic success in high school. All students must be present, in complete uniform, and prepared for the school day by 8:00 A.M. We have implemented several strategies and intervention to help every student successfully pass the Algebra I and English II High School Assessment test at the end of May. The single school mission of Coppin Academy is to prepare 100 percent of our students to enter college after their senior year. We encourage all students who are passing and excelling to continue their excellent work. Students who are not succeeding have the following characteristics and we ask parent attention and support to correct these traits:
- They do not complete homework every day
- They do not focus and pay attention in class
- They do not take advantage of after school and weekend intervention
- They play during the school day ; and
It's not too late to ensure that your child is academically successful and passes without attending summer school. Please make a point of coming to school on report card day. Please bring your child with you so that we can have an academic conference after the report card has been issued.
Sincerely,
Mr. William L. Howard,
Principal
