Chief of Staff
The Chief of Staff to the President is responsible for directing the operations of the President's Office while maintaining constant interface with the President's Cabinet and Administrative Council to ensure that key issues are being proactively addressed. The Chief of Staff serves as the President's liaison to various university related committees, including the University's Foundation Board as well as governmental and other external organizations. In addition, the Chief of Staff manages the flow of communications in and out of the President's office to ensure consistent and responsive message delivery to key university stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, the University System of Maryland, various governing boards, and others as appropriate. The Chief of Staff to the President also plays a key communications role relative to the university's media and marketing activities, and serves on the President’s Cabinet.
Luwanda W. Jenkins serves as Chief of Staff to the President and Associate Vice President for Government Relations. Ms. Jenkins brings extensive, results-driven leadership experience in the areas of marketing, community relations and public-sector minority business enterprise program development in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Coppin State University, Ms. Jenkins served as Governor Martin O'Malley's Special Secretary for The Governor's Office of Minority Affairs where she was instrumental in leading several reforms and initiatives which generated record gains in the amount of minority business participation in State contracting. She is a graduate of Towson State University and the Johns Hopkins University where she received her master's degree in business management.
