Registration Procedure
Center for Counseling and Student Development

When a student visits the Center for Counseling and Student Development, there are several procedural guidelines for receiving services. These procedures have been established to expedite a smooth registration process and delivery of services while giving staff the ability to track students' who use the services. Each of the guidelines listed should be utilized without any deletions.

  • Upon entering the Center, all students must sign the log sheet at the front desk and check the purpose for their visit.
  • Depending upon the level of services sought, Self-service (Level 1) or Full-service (Level II), will determine the continuing process. The receptionist will ask all students to complete the Initial Registration Form (IRF).
  • Self-service permits students to collect handouts or literature displayed on the shelves in the Center.

  • Staff will date and note service rendered on the back of the registration form, indicate if visit is initial or ongoing and encourage student to register for full-service.
  • All Initial Registration Forms for Self-Service will be kept in folders secured in a file drawer.
  • Full-Service permits students to have access to all job books; the opportunity to meet with a counselor, receive help with preparing resumes, interviewing skills or job search; participate in "Mock interviews; interview with employers on-campus, and have resumes forwarded to employers; apply for internships or co-ops; and receive job announcements, career fair and industry information via e-mail.
  • To access Full-Service, in addition to completing the IRF, students must:

    • meet with a counselor;
    • submit a resume for critique;
    • attend an interviewing Skills workshop / or view video on Interviewing;
    • submit revised resume via e-mail;
    • submit an unofficial transcript and an official transcript;
    • complete an Internship/Co-op Registration Form, if needed;
    • complete a Credential Release Form.

  • Upon completion of each session, the Career Counselor identifies (on the back of the registration form) the session as an Initial (I) or Continuing (C), the services rendered, the date, and next step for student to complete.
  • Folders will be prepared for each student registering for Full-Service and all forms will be kept in the student's folder and secured in the Center's file drawers.
  • Students who register to receive Full - service will be entered into a database to receive frequent communications from the Center.
  • Each student who begins the process of registering for full service and does not complete it will be contacted twice (post card or e-mail) by the counselor to follow through before the file is closed.
  • At the end of each academic year, the Career Counselor should finalize the students' folders. If a Student returns the following year, the forms should be updated or the file closed if the student does not update their information.
