Ms. Joanne Matthews serves as Counselor in the Center for Counseling and Student Development. Ms. Matthews attended Bowie State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work, and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.

Ms. Matthews is a Certified Addictions Counselor in the state of Maryland. Her professional experience includes counseling in educational and outpatient treatment settings.

Janice Nelson is the Administrative Assistant for the Center for Counseling and Student Development. She has a A.A. from Baltimore City Community College. She comes to Coppin State University with a diversity of office experience. Her background includes working for the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED) where she worked with a busy population of individuals who were in transition to new career paths, employment and educational opportunities. She enjoys working with people and helping them to obtain some level of success.

Mr. Christopher Thomas serves as the Assistant Director in the Center for Counseling and Student Development. Mr. Thomas attended Howard University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, School of Social Work.

Mr. Thomas is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Washington, DC and a Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical in the state of Maryland. In addition, Mr. Thomas holds a Board Certified Diplomate Certification in Clinical Social Work from the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work.

He has also completed advanced training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the International Psychotherapy Institute located in Bethesda, MD. His professional experience includes both clinical and programming functions within residential, outpatient and community organizational treatment settings.
