Professor Hugh W, Barnes, Jr. - Director of Bands
Professor Barnes, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Morgan State University and a Master of Science degree in Education from McDaniel College, located in Western Maryland. Prof. Barnes is also pursuing his Ph.D. in music education from Boston University. Prof. Barnes has a wealth of experience as a band director. Prior to his appointment at Coppin State University, he taught at Crossland High School in Temple Hills, Maryland; Baltimore City College High School; Mount Zion Elementary and Middle School in Baltimore, and Glen Dale Baptist Church School of Music in Prince George's County.
In addition to his band work, Prof. Barnes has had much experience in the world of vocal music. He has served as Minister of Music for Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Montgomery County, Maryland and Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore City. In addition, he has served as a successful choir director at Crossland High School and has also created instrumental as well as vocal music programs for several communities in the city of Baltimore.
